Oporto City

Description

On your right, along the banks of the Douro, lies Ribeira, one of Porto's most picturesque and authentic areas. Like the city's entire historic center, it was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996. Here, you can still see the stone pillars of the former Suspension Bridge (Ponte Pênsil). Opened in 1843 to replace the early Bridge of Boats (Ponte das Barcas), it served the city for 45 years until it was decommissioned to make way for the iconic Luiz I Bridge.
